your right its not force, but it is incentive to vote... There should be no incentive for voting, players should want to vote for the server to support it, not to gain items. Also if you read that following thread that was linked to it covers portions of the sites Terms of Service which prevent it, ...

This player was investigated, and as a result banned from Amistr.net, this occured yesterday afternoon.

My suggestion would be Crossover Games for running any game on linux.
