I recommend enabling / changing up the captcha settings on registration, seems to deter them on my phpBB installation. GD captcha has a nasty issue of not wanting to load around my phpBB installation, but still.

Updated our phpBB which adds support for reCAPTCHA. This is approved and implemented.
However, there are some hiccups at the moment migrating our old settings to the new build. Let us know if you see anything fishy.
